Talks on the current state of works and the future of the Baltic FAB

zdj

The directions of further development of Baltic FAB, as well as a summation of the level of realization of project tasks, are the main topics of the recently finished second meeting of the Council of the Baltic Functional Airspace Block - Baltic FAB, which was presided by the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Development, Sławomir Żałobka. Lithuania's Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication, Arijandas Šliupas, also took part in the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by: the acting President of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency - Magdalena Jaworska, and the acting Vice President for Air Navigation - Paweł Babiński, the President of the Civil Aviation Authority and representatives of the Ministry of National Defense. The meeting took place on April 14-15 2015 in Warsaw.

The meeting ended with the signing of 6 decisions. The most important arrangements concerned the development of air traffic management systems for Poland and Lithuania, the ITEC technology, and the commencement of negotiations on the accession to the so-called ITEC / iCAS system group. Accession to this group is to ensure full synchronization of the technological development of Polish and Lithuanian air navigation services with the SESAR program. The objective of these actions, being a part of the European Union concept of creating a Single European Sky (SES), is the implementation of a uniform air traffic management system in the Baltic FAB in the coming years.

Furthermore, in one of the signed decisions, the Ministers indicated that the common development strategy of the Baltic FAB will contain long term objectives and guidelines for further development of the Program, taking into account the plans of extension of the Baltic FAB in the future and taking up a closer cooperation with other countries.
The progress in the realization of works on Poland and Lithuania's joint initiative, indicated by the participants of the meeting, is due to long-term and intensive cooperation of high-level experts from both of these countries.

The meeting was a subsequent step towards increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of institutions providing air navigation services of the Baltic FAB, and it provided the basis for reinforcing Baltic FAB's position in the Functional Airspace Blocks system in Europe.

The functional airspace blocks constitute a structural and organizational component of the SES (Single European Sky) program, contributing to a gradual integration of the airspace management system. Currently, 9 FAB initiatives are under development: UK-Ireland FAB, Danish-Swedish FAB, Baltic FAB, BLUE MED FAB, Danube FAB, FAB CE, FABEC, North European FAB and South West FAB.
